Job Description
The City of St. Charles is currently seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our Finance Department.

Job Description
Responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including reconciling and/or maintaining records essential to accurate account billing, daily cash deposit processing, select general ledger account balancing and other general accounting functions which aid and support the department. Responsibilities also include:
  • Accounts Payable vendor management to include creating, updating and maintaining vendor records in ERP system, and tracking minority vendor information for reporting purposes
  • Maintaining current certificates of insurance and other required vendor forms
  • Provide regular backup and support to Utility Billing including the processing of utility payments and responding to customer inquiries
  • Process and journalize locally imposed fines and tax receipts
  • Provide regular backup and support to prepare daily cash deposit, scanning of all checks received, and ensuring all cash receipts are entered into the general ledger and treasury management system
  • Maintain grant reimbursement records and receipts
  • Performs general accounting and other functions in support of the Finance Department’s needs

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent requires, with an Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience in an accounting/finance environment, government experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide superior customer service
  • Intermediate skills with Word, Excel, and Outlook (Evare, DACRA, CFA skills a plus).
  • If selected, successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen are required.
