Position Summary

We are currently conducting interviews for our Graduate Assistant (GA) position. The position requires 15-20 hours/week, and will begin no later than July 8th, 2024. The purpose of this role is to support the day-to-day operations of the UMed Program, as well as offer research and project support. This is an hourly position with no tuition waiver. This role is hybrid, with the expectation that you are available at least 1-2 times a week for in-office work, in addition to support for special events and seminars, as your class schedule allows. Events may take place on evenings or weekends. You will work under the supervision of the UMed Director and UMed Program Manager.

The Urban Medicine (UMed) Program is a 4-year, scholarly concentration program that runs in parallel to the medical school curriculum, with the mission to, "train a workforce of life long physician-leaders who are committed to partnering with local organizations to address health disparities by promoting justice in systematically oppressed communities through service learning and advocacy." The curriculum is based on the following themes: disparities in healthcare access and outcomes; community engagement; diversity and intercultural communication; and policy and advocacy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage logistics (room reservations, food orders, setup) for seminars and events
  • Assist in research initiatives, such as literature reviews, data collection, data entry, and program evaluation
  • Communicate with community partners, students, program administrators, etc.
  • Fulfill additional programmatic and administrative functions as required.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for addressing health inequities in Chicago
  • Excellent writing, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of tasks on short notice within designated deadlines
  • Experience or familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research (conducting interviews, Dedoose, RedCap, Qualtrics)
  • Skilled in creating eye-catching materials using Canva, PPT, etc.
  • Familiarity with coursework in public health and/or lived experiences that relate to UMed's curricular themes preferred
