Job Description

Hours: PRN/Registry - Two weekends a month with occasional other EEG coverage day option.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate of an ASET accredited Neurophysiology program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Well developed computer skills related to performance of procedures. Provides technical interpretation for all procedures. Behavioral observations convey advanced clinical knowledge
  • Effective communication skills, good interpersonal skills.
  • Functions as a team member.
  • Good skills in CQI process and implementation
  • ABRET registration or RPSGT CPR Certified

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performance of END Procedures
    • 1)Performs all electroencephalographic and evoked potential procedures including call coverage.
    • 2)Provides complete documentation for each procedure and maintains necessary records. Reports behavioral observations. Reviews patient's existing records to aid in the assessment of the recording procedure.
    • 3)Demonstrates the use of appropriate psychosocial interventions based on age and cognitive status.
    • 4)Provides appropriate patient care, maintains environment that is safe based on age and developmental status. Provides detailed observations of clinical manifestations during a seizure and/or other patient emergency situations. Certified in CPR and initiates when appropriate.
    • 5)Adheres to departmental guidelines and protocols for all testing procedures.
    • 6)Practices proper care, use and maintenance of equipment.
    • 7)Gives personalized service in every situation.
    • 8)Audits that 100% of procedures performed have interpretations posted within Care Connection. Will check daily for outstanding dictations - will contact interpreting physician or practice designee of outstanding dictations after 3 business days. Will notify manager of any outstanding dictations after 5 business days.
    • 9)Audits that 100% of procedures performed have been charged. Will check that previous business days procedure charges are visible within Care Connection charge list.
  • Communication Skills
    • 1)Supports teamwork and assists in teambuilding interventions
    • 2)Demonstrates a tolerance for new ideas, suspending initial judgments upon the introduction of new ideas from other team members.
    • 3)Actively participates in co-worker feedback program. Gives and accepts constructive feedback.
    • 4)Builds relationships with customers by listening and responding to their needs and expectations. Seeks feedback to determine customer's needs.
    • 5)Owns and resolves every customer problem or issue to the best of ability, referring unresolved issues to the proper source.
    • 6)Keep manager informed of issues that have arisen and efforts taken to resolve issue
  • Training/Cross-training activities
    • 1)Participates in the development and implementation of protocols.
    • 2)Ensures technical expertise and excellence by discussing with Manager and Neurologists any need for appropriate changes regarding procedures.
    • 3)Assists in the development, implementation and data gathering projects as needed.
    • 4)Works with other associates to improve departmental processes.
    • 5)Actively participates as a team member departmental teams, at times take on the role of the leader of the team.
  • Technical Resource Activities
    • 1)Maintains contact and serves as a technical resource person for clinicians and other personnel in regard to electroneurophysiologic procedures performed in the department.
    • 2)Adheres to departmental, hospital and organizational policies and procedures. Assists Manager in the evaluation and writing of departmental procedures.
  • Other Departmental Activities
    • 1)Performance of special projects as assigned in an effective and efficient manner.
    • 2)Assists Neurologist in EMG procedures.



Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Requires teamwork Work may be performed in all units of hospital and ER May be exposed to life threatening diseases Work with all age groups and types of disabilities Requires flexible schedule and at times long work hours including On-Call rotation Training and assisting in Electroneruophysiologic procedures Capable of dealing with hazardous materials
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
